In 1457, Shari’ful Hashem Syed Abu Bakr, an Arab born in Johore, arrived in Sulu from Malacca and he founded the Sultanate of Sulu; he then renamed himself “Paduka Maulana Mahasari Sharif Sultan Hashem Abu Bakr.” while Shariff Mohammed Kabungsuwan of Johor introduced Islam in the island of Mindanao at the end of the 16th century. He subsequently married a local princess and established the Sultanate of Maguindanao.
Islam was further strengthened by the arrival to the Philippines by traders, and proselytizers from Malaysia, and Indonesia. By the 13th century, Islam was established in the Sulu Archipelago, and had reached Mindanao, the Visayas, and Luzon by 1565.

Colonial era:
In 1521, Portuguese-born Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan arrived at Samar and Leyte, and claimed the islands for Spain. Colonization began when Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi, arrived from Mexico in 1565, and formed the first European settlements in Cebu. In 1571, the Spanish conquered the kingdom of Maynila and Tondo and established Manila as the capital of the Spanish East Indies. The colony was governed as a territory of the Viceroyalty of New Spain from 1565 to 1821, and administered directly from Spain from 1821 to 1898.

From 1565 to 1821, the Philippines was governed from Mexico City via the Royal Audiencia of Manila, before it was administered directly from Madrid after the Mexican revolution. The Manila Galleons which linked Manila to Acapulco traveled once or twice a year between the 16th and 19th centuries. The Spanish military fought off various indigenous revolts and several external colonial challenges, specially from the British, Chinese pirates, Dutch, and Portuguese. After the War, the Philippines faced the plauge of political instability. Dude I had the exact same problem. They did cancel the flight. Here is exactly what I did. Call the Thai Airways office in Los Angeles, the number is on the website. Keep trying and calling them. Also if you can email them too. Once you reach someone at ticketing, they will give you an option of refunding your entire ticket or you can ask them to find you another route. If you do ask them to re route you, it will mostly likely be with UA from JFK to LAX and then the Thai Airways flight from LAX to BKK. I have read that some people got a ANA flight from JFK – NRT – BKK. For me, I took the refund option because I am not leaving until December. I bought a ticket with Cathay Pacific instead JFK – Hong Kong – BKK. Hope this helps. What is most important is that you take the effort to call them and not wait for them to call you. I got a lot of my information from this forum. There are a lot of people in your situation as well.

Try to have some western food when you two are arguing what to eat for dinner or lunch, like salad – apple + roasted walnut + prawns (if you have the budget) on lettuce leaves. With pasta as main dish, it can be anything as topping with tomato sauce, you can just have cheese or vegetables while she can have her pork or deep fried frog legs.

I’m a Chinese, I understand how your gf feel about Indian food, the culture and climate differences make our bodies can’t stand the spices. Luckily both Chinese and Indian like steamed rice! (Well, Southern Chinese eat rice, Northern Chinese like noodles! If your gf is from the North, Naan solves the problem, otherwise, just eat bread with butter & jam!)

I personally like curry a lot, but I also can’t have it daily, it ruins my digestive system.
