Dean Answers Questions About Asian Spirit

Daniel asks…

Is it safe to fly via Asian Spirit or SEAirlines going to Coron Palawan? Which one is safer?

My friends and I are planning to go to Coron, Palawan this summer. However, we found out that the only domestic airlines flying straight from Manila to Coron is via Asian Spirit or SEAir. I’ve heard a lot of bad rumors about Asian Spirit, and I’ve never flew SEAir before, so would like to ask which airline is safer or if you have other ways on how to get to Coron quickly, safely yet inexpensively. Thanks!

Ken asks…

What is that Asian spirit catching mirror?

My friends growing up were Vietnamese. They had these small wooden framed mirrors in the shape of an octagon (I think) hung above every doorway into their home. When I asked, they said it was a mirror to reflect bad spirits away from the home. What are these called? Is that part of a particular religion? Or just a cultural thing? Is that a correct statement of what they are for? Where can I buy one?

Dean answers:

It’s called a “Ba-gua mirror”. Very common in Taoism and Feng Sui. Chinese hang it above the doors (outside the house) to repel bad things like negative energy, bad luck, or “spirit” that you just mentioned.

James asks…

How do I get to Masbate from Manila aside from taking the expensive Asian Spirit flight?

I would like to know an easy but economical way of going to Masbate.

Dean answers:

1) Take a Bus or Van going to Naga. I suggest you board a bus because it lands you the the CBD station rather than just landing you anywhere in Naga like a van.
2) Once there, go to the CBD station. Hop on a bus, jeep or van going to Pasacao. Jeepneys would be cheaper.
3) In Pasacao, there is a port. There are different classes of boats there. If you want to travel the cheap way, take a MAXIM or an EMIDEL ferry going to Masbate. Those two ferris may be cheap but they use burning copra for fuel and it really stinks and it also sucks because you can smell it all over the ferry.
4) Once you reach Masbate, enjoy!

David asks…

Flying from Manila to Caticlan…is it safe to fly via Sea Air or Asian Spirit?

I am quite dreadful to fly via Asian Spirit and Sea Air because it’s a very small aircraft with limited seating capacity and not to mention their history of plane crashes.
I would prefer Philippine Airlines but they don’t fly to Caticlan, only to Kalibo and it’s about 2 hours bus transfer from Kalibo to Caticlan which is quite far.

We had been to Boracay in 2000. We had no option but to ride Asian Spirit. I just wonder why PAL doesnt take this route! Anyway, as long as there is no strong winds this summer, then I think it is just safe.
